Jayn Wittenmyer Distinguished Achievement Award
2008 marks the ninth year for the Jayn Wittenmyer Distinguished Achievement Award (formerly called the Adult Service Award). The award recognizes an individual who demonstrates a steadfast commitment to adults with developmental disabilities. The recipient has demonstrated high professional standards, leadership and extraordinary effort above and beyond what is normally expected or required.
The nominee has made contributions in any of the following areas or combination of areas, including:
- Teaching
- Counseling
- Psychology
- Law
- Volunteerism
- Direct Support Work
- Advocacy
- Legislation
- Program Development
- Medicine
- Administration
In 2006, this award was renamed the Jayn Wittenmyer Distinguished Achievement Award in recognition of Jayn Wittenmyer's accomplishments. Ms. Wittenmyer served as WCDD Executive Director from 1976 to 1997. During her tenure, she helped to shape the Family Support Program, Birth to Three Program, the Community Integration Program, and the Community Options Program. Her tireless work helped to develop community supports that allow people withdevelopmental disabilities to live and participate in their communities.
